How did you find NMR?

Former coworker joined NMR on a previous contract and recruited me for the open Dev Team Lead position.

What is your job title at NMR? Describe what you do.

Started at NMR as the Portal and Data Services Development Team Lead and recently moved up to a Chief Technology Officer role.  My time is split between being a senior technical resource assisting other groups, doing architecture and engineering on new solutions, learning as much as possible about other capabilities our contract provides, and longer term planning on future products and capabilities and how they can fit in with our customer and their needs.

How long have you been with NMR?

I started with NMR on Sep 2015, so 8.5 years now.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Problem solving is still what gives me the most pleasure.  Whether that is solving an issue for a customer, helping a coworker solve their issue, or just finding efficiencies that make people’s day-to-day life easier.

What made you choose to work at NMR?

In speaking with my former coworker, he spoke at great lengths about how great of a company NMR was, how leadership was engaging, the benefits of working at a smaller company (as we both were working for a large Fortune 500 company), and the work NMR was doing for their customer.  The company sounded great, the work sounded right up my ally, and the position was a step up to team lead for me.

What are some of the most rewarding aspects of your job?

Finalizing a completely automated end-to-end solution that provides all of the desired outputs that saves multiple people time in their daily work.

What are some job challenges that you face?

Customer constraints are typically the most difficult aspects of work - providing solutions that are within budgets, utilize existing, available, and attainable technologies, and are cyber secure.

What makes NMR different from your past workplaces?

I’ve worked for both very small and very large companies. NMR was my first modest size company to work for, and it has been great.  As is typical, in very large organizations, it is difficult to stand out with exemplary work, and in very small organizations usually means wearing multiple hats.  Working at NMR has provided the means and opportunities to do the job I was hired for, excel at it, and be recognized for doing great work.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

In the kitchen cooking new things or trying new techniques, playing video games, and exploring new cities and parks.

Where is somewhere that you’ve never been but would love to go to?

Tough one, so many places.  Patagonia probably tops that list with New Zealand a close second.

Is there a hobby that you would like to try?

Getting my pilots license

What song is currently on repeat?

Honestly, having just returned from a trip to Atlanta to see the symphony play Holst’ The Planets, Jupiter has probably been played several times, but wow does that sound pretentious.  I typically stick to alternative music, but cannot really say anything has me listening to it on repeat lately.

Desert Island, no internet. What 3 movies do you want downloaded to your phone?
